SUMMER
- WHALE WATCHING ABOARD THE CONDOR EXPRESS
Humpback
and Blue Whales at the Islands
(Mid-May,
June, July, August, September, October, November)
YES,
there are whales in the waters off of Santa Barbara during
the summer months! In fact, the Santa Barbara Channel has
become one of the most consistent and reliable
locations in the world for viewing the giant Blue and
gregarious humpback whales. Since the early 1990's some of
the largest pods of these animals found anywhere have returned
each summer to feed in the nutrient rich waters between the
coast and the four northern Channel Islands.
Thousands
of passengers each summer board the CONDOR EXPRESS to witness
these magnificent, but endangered, whales. These 1/2 day excursions
run nearly a 100% whale sighting record and feature
likely encounters with a variety of species of animals including
dolphins,
seals, sea lions, and a variety of sea birds. Each trip includes
a visit along the spectacular volcanic cliffs of Santa Cruz
Island and a stop at one of the largest sea caves in the world,
Painted Cave.
The CONDOR
EXPRESS runs 1/2 day summer whale watching excursions
daily starting in May and run through November (or
till the whales leave the Channel).
